Breakthrough (A Poem)

Breakthrough (A Poem) - Sabrina Wottreng

Used to think I had no control
I built a wall, impenetrable
The wall, soul crushingly heavy
The wall building, expanding
Surrounding, I was trapped
With carrier pigeon thoughts
Until I realized how strong I am
I let go of everything he did
Let go of everything she did
They did and especially what I did
Strength of acceptance
The weakness of cowering no more
One kick fueled by the past
I kicked the wall down
The rest collapsed
There I was, free not trapped
Ready to take on my life
Without a thousand bricks of baggage
I am clear, ready and determined
To never be in that box again
